Why Get A Tooth Pulled If It Is Not Hurting?

Posted on 6/5/2023 by Mark Bieber
Why Get A Tooth Pulled If It Is Not Hurting? The idea of tooth extraction sends a chill down many people's spines and makes them feel anxious. However, it is a vital procedure for various dental issues. Tooth abscesses, excruciating tooth pain, seriously sore gums, deeper decay, and serious periodontitis are among the many things that could necessitate an extraction.

You may, however, wonder whether you need to get a tooth extraction when it is not painful. Most people visit our dentist believing that their oral health is okay only to receive a shocking suggestion that they have to pull their teeth. Some oral issues occur silently and advance unknowingly to grave levels.

Since most dental issues have pain as the first symptom, most people won't realize there is a problem until it is more severe. Nonetheless, tooth extraction can be ideal even when you do not feel any pain or tooth discomfort. Common problems that may prompt tooth extraction are:

Preventive Extraction

Even if your tooth doesn't hurt at the moment, it may have an issue that may cause pain and complications in the future. Third molars, for instance, are examples of problematic teeth that should be extracted preemptively to prevent future dental issues like infections, abscesses, and damage to the surrounding teeth. Dentists, therefore, extract wisdom teeth before they erupt.

Periodontitis

It is a severe gum infection that contributes to tooth loss and other grave health conditions. Periodontitis can damage the soft tissues, the underlying jawbone supporting your teeth, and the tooth itself. When the damage happens, your teeth will become loose because of the infection. While this is not painful, it could cause irreversible damage, hence tooth extraction is the only option our dentist has to save your teeth.

Crowding

If you want braces, you may need a tooth extraction to prevent the problem of tooth overcrowding. Our dentist will remove the third molars or wisdom teeth to create space to straighten the rest of the teeth. If you are not sure whether you need a tooth extraction, reach out to us for a consultation.
