If you wake up in pain or you have an ache in your jaw, you're not alone. Millions of Americans wake up with jaw pain every day. Jaw pain can lead to headaches, tooth pain, ear pain, and trouble sleeping. Why does your jaw hurt when you wake up? Keep reading for some information about why your jaw hurts every day, and what you can do to fix the problem. Those Nerves While there are other causes of tooth pain or jaw pain, the most common reason your jaw hurts is because you may be grinding or clenching your teeth every night. Adults put up with a lot of stress every day. Sometimes, that stress does not come out until you are asleep. Then you may clench your jaw, or grind your teeth. Both clenching and teeth grinding are trouble. This is because teeth grinding and clenching lead to jaw pain, because the nerves get overstimulated. Any muscle clenched for a long period of time will hurt, and your jaw is no exception. Your jaw pain can lead to some serious dental issues. First, you may have trouble chewing because your jaw hurts, which is not good. Your jaw needs fiber to be healthy. Fiber acts as a toothbrush for your teeth and gums. In addition, clenching or grinding your jaw can lead to head and neck pain in addition to jaw pain, which means you could spend the whole day hurting. You could also clench or grind your teeth so hard you could crack or break your teeth. This means that you will need to have dental work done to relieve your aching mouth.
