What foods are good for my child's teeth

Eating healthy ensures that you are healthy and that your overall oral health is catered for. The dentist will therefore advise you to eat foods that are only healthy and those that will not affect the health of the teeth and gums. You need to come up with a meal plan with the help of the dentist to know the foods that are suitable for your teeth and those that will keep you smiling at all times.

Foods without sugar

Ensure that your diet contains foods that do not have sugar, this is because sugar is not good for the teeth. Sugar will combine with the bad bacteria in the mouth and will cause your mouth to have acid. The acid erodes the teeth and will cause a cavity to form. The cavity can lead to having tooth decay and can eventually lead to tooth loss. This is one big reason why you need to eat foods that do not have sugar such as sweets, cakes, and candies.

Foods without acid

Ensure that your diet comprises foods that do not have acid. Acid is not good for the teeth; it causes erosion of the enamel which is the hardest part of the teeth. After the enamel is eroded it exposes the dentin which is a soft layer that covers the pulp. When it is exposed, it leads to infection of the pulp cavity. The pulp cavity carries the blood vessels and the nerves. Avoid feeding the child foods that are acidic such as citrus fruits. The citrus fruits such as oranges, pineapples should be consumed along with other meals so that they reduce the effects of the acid. Ensure that after eating you encourage the child to brush and floss the teeth to avoid build-up of plaque and tartar.
