What is cosmetic bonding?
 Cosmetic bonding is made of a resin material.
This resin can easily be manipulated to fit the shape of your tooth or teeth. It is made to match the exact color of your existing teeth so that it blends well and cannot be detected from your surrounding teeth.
This procedure is permanent, but the bonding must be well cared for to ensure its pleasing appearance for the foreseeable future.
How Cosmetic Bonding is Performed
At Toomin & Bieber, we perform cosmetic bonding, along with other cosmetic procedures like teeth whitening,on a daily basis. It is a procedure that is minimally invasive, yet provides excellent results. We start off by preparing your existing enamel, which we do by making the surface a little rougher, so that the resin has something to stick to when we apply it. Once the enamel is prepared, the resin is placed and properly shaped and sized to ensure that it does not stick out, making talking or even closing your mouth difficult. Once the material has been properly manipulated, we ask for your approval before using the ultra violet light to harden the material, making it a permanent part of your mouth. Once the material is hardened, we buff it to ensure that it is shiny enough to perfect your smile.
Durability of Cosmetic Bonding
   Cosmetic bonding does differ from porcelain veneers – it is not as strong. This means that regular wear and tear from eating can cause it to break down and need eventual replacement. It is the perfect procedure for those that do not want to undergo extensive dental procedures or do not have insurance coverage for cosmetic procedures, as bonding is minimally invasive and affordable. In certain cases, however, we will caution against this procedure, as they will stain easily, which is the case for smokers or those that drink excessive amounts of coffee.
In general, caring for teeth with cosmetic bonding is rather simple and is the same as the care you would provide your other teeth. Care should be taken during the first 48 hours of placement of the bonding, however, as that is when they are the most likely to become damaged if you chew something too hard or eat something that causes staining.
After those first two days, you can go back to your normal diet and oral hygiene habits, ensuring that you are brushing and flossing twice a day to ensure the integrity of your natural teeth as well as your cosmetic bonding.
