Dentistry is a rapidly advancing science. Our diagnostic tools at Smile Burbank are continually improving. Among these tools, dental x-rays have come a long way. Tiny slides are a thing of the past, digital is far superior. Our dentists, Dr. Lawrence Toomin and Dr. Mark Bieber, offer digital x-rays both at your chair-side and also by using a stand-up machine called Panoramic Imaging PC-1000 through Pancorp.
What is Panoramic Imaging?
Panoramic Imaging is a digital x-ray machine that takes full x-ray images of the teeth, gums, bone, temporomandibular joint, maxillary sinuses and nasal area. The images we receive are highly diagnostic, they are significantly clear, offer multiple magnification options, and allow for enhancement to zero in on areas of concern. As the patient, you are able to be involved in the process, and will actually be able to see what we see.
How is a Panoramic Image different than traditional images?
 Panoramic images allows for a much larger area to be seen than the conventional methods of intra-oral x-rays. This is allows Dr. Toomin and Dr. Bieber to see the positioning of teeth within the oral cavity and view the upper and lower jaws in one image. This is helpful in creating plans at our Burbank, CA office for dentures, implants, braces, and other dental devices.
How is a Panoramic Image taken?
The machine is a stand up machine located in our office. You will lean into the device, placing a bite instrument into your mouth. When ready, the machine will take a 12 second image rotating around your head.
How do I prepare for this?
The only criteria for a Panoramic Image is to remove all jewelry and metal objects. Earrings, necklaces, hearing aids, and anything else needs to be removed before the image can be taken.
