 Do you hate how stained your teeth look? If you do, you may want to run out and buy one of those over-the-counter teeth whitening kits. But do those really work? In many cases, they do an okay job, but many find that they don't whiten evenly or that they don't work as well as expected. Fortunately, you don't necessarily need these kits for small stains. If you see light staining or a small stain on one tooth, you can often use baking soda to get rid of it. How Does it Work? All you need to do is brush over the stain with a paste made from baking soda or hydrogen peroxide. You can use baking soda by itself, but it's not quite as effective. Instead, mix a tablespoon of it with two tablespoons of the hydrogen peroxide. Apply this paste to a toothbrush and brush over the stain. Don't press down too hard—you don't want to injure your gums or teeth! Once you've brushed with the paste, you will want to rinse your mouth out with water. Also, be sure to thoroughly clean your toothbrush before using it again. You can also look for toothpaste that contains baking soda. These toothpastes have been found to help remove light stains if used regularly for six weeks. What About Darker Stains?If you have larger or darker stains, baking soda may simply not be enough.
